i was always a shy and weird kid (before i was diagnosed with autism in my adult years) so i spent a lot of time on the computer. definitely too much time, but it's there i discovered forums such as kawaiiville, pixelbee, and teahouse mb (if you remember any of these PLEASE CONTACT ME LIKE FOR REAL). i saw all the cool little sites people made to display their pixels, glitter graphics, and neat stuff they coded. i always really loved pixel art (have made my own, but it was never my forte) and i got into coding my own websites.

i made crappy sites on freewebs and piczo, using the free layouts and graphics people made because i didn't know how to pirate software like photoshop when i was 8. compared to sites of similar aesthetic, they sucked. but for an 8 year old, it was pretty damn good. i loved making sites for every topic i was interested in; sailor moon, tokyo mew mew, ghosts, cats. instead of being excited to go play a sport or something after school, i was excited to hop on the computer and browse these forums, tweak my websites, or play sims 2.

i moved on from this hobby once these forums and sites began shutting down and dying out. in my junior year of high school, i took a web development class and re-discovered my love for it, but i was disappointed to find that this niche community was still quite dead. in college, i initially went for a computer science degree, but i was AWFUL at calculus and physics, which was required for the program. i struggled to pass even with all the tutoring, and considered other majors, namely psychology or forensics/criminology/detective work. but honestly i lack the people skills for psychology and didn't want to go to medical school, and many careers paths in forensics and criminology included being a cop beforehand (which before i realized how much they suck, is definitely not a career i'm suited for or want to do). i started at community college and transferred to university, and on orientation day, i saw that they had a web development major. it didn't require all the hardcore science and math classes, and had classes about the stuff i was really interested in, like web programming and databases. i changed my major right then and there and don't regret it

i graduated a bit later than most because of changing my major and failing a pre-requisite when i was a computer science major, but i could never give it up. i can't imagine another career for me. one professor in particular made me question if i should give it up (she was awful and full of herself. made a lot of students drop out of compsci), but now i'd tell her to suck it because i worked hard to study and understand this stuff. i work at a small local agency as a front end developer for about 2 years now, working mainly making custom wordpress sites. it doesn't pay as well as a bigger company but i'm treated like a human being and i'm fine with that trade-off. all that being said, i still don't always use best practices on this site LOL i'm slowly working through this and always learning more about the web. feel free to peek my source code idc
